Ăn chay – tích đức – cầu siêu cho người mất: Đây là giai đoạn có ý nghĩa hết sức quan trọng với người mất. Thời gian chuyển kiếp dài hay ngắn phụ thuộc vào nghiệp của người mất và sự trợ duyên của người sống. Do vậy, con cháu cần ăn chay tích đức trợ duyên để người mất được siêu thoát nhanh hơn.

Cúng lễ cầu siêu 7 ngày/ lần: Lễ cúng này trong dân gian gọi là lễ thất thất lai tuần, trong lễ này gia đình nên lập đàn thờ phật và mời các già đến tụng kinh, lễ chay cúng 7 ngày một lần.

Không làm việc ác, không tổ chức việc vui khi còn để tang (thường là 1 năm):  Không tạo nghiệp sát sinh, giết mổ động vật để trợ duyên thêm cho người mất siêu thoát. Trong thời gian này cũng nên làm các việc từ thiện để gieo phúc tạo phúc hỗ trợ người mất.
